Background Of Quest

Quest was conceived of as a social media app that recommends things to do based on your location, but since then has evolved in its vision. Our goal is to create real world social media that recommends and facilitates top experiences, making connection and exploration effortless. It all began after my freshman year of college when I traveled around America, staying in the back of my Prius. For two months I traveled city to city, never knowing what to do, or how to meet and connect with people. I ended up being a spectator in every city I went to. I was in these cities, but I was not a part of them. This experience is ultimately what led me to ask myself “why?” and “how can I make the most out of my time? How can I find the best experiences? Meet the right people and make this experience what I imagined it would be”. So after my travels I began planning, building, and learning….. all to get to where I am today. An entrepreneur equipped with the knowledge, the team, the insight, and the determination to create the next big social media company. One that will change the social landscape forever.

We started by utilizing existing platforms e.g. Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook to build a following and a brand. Then we relaunched our site. Next we’ll relaunch our app. The key to driving people to our platform and building a real digital community is through our meetups and through real world interactions, but the way to capture attention and provide value at scale is through high quality, and high volumes of content being served through a recommendation algorithm for the real world.

Long term our primary and most scalable source of revenue will be our advertising platform and the buy in (memberships) that we have from our members. 
 
Short term business services will give us the most revenue as well as help us establish partnerships that will strengthen our platform and our offering to our community.

Our Expectations For Team Members

For team members with equity, but no pay (to start) we expect consistent work in your free time that pushes the ball down the field (30-60 mins per day after work) and active participation in the weekly meeting (60 mins once per week). We expect that upon raising money, founding members will receive enough to live comfortably, but not lavishly ($50-60K salaries across the board + equity comp). I expect full commitment to making the company a success. This means limiting distractions and making Quest your primary focus while putting in consistent 8-10 hour days 5-6 days per week until we have made our business into the success it is capable of being. Expect these conditions to last at least 4-5 years. With the rise of AI and affordable low cost labor from overseas we can perhaps achieve greater efficiencies, achieve our goals, and reach a thoroughly comfortable spot within the next 2-3 years. 

Roadmap

These are our current next steps: 

  1. Finish finalizing our core engineering team composed of a Data Engineer, a SWE, & A Designer
  2. Build out core ETL systems for:
  • our core data (restaurants, deals, events)
  • content for the data (pictures & videos for each place)
  • user activity data (how users interact with content) 

After the core ETL systems are built we will set up the core recommendation system to have personalized recommendations. We will also use these systems to create fine-tuned LLM model for our users (for explicit recommendation requests). This is when we’ll start raising our first large round to begin focusing on Quest full time.

We will then begin promoting our platform and testing it. Once thorough testing has been done we will begin aggressively promoting our platform through influencer marketing, meetups, and we will start enhancing our membership offering with unique deals from restaurants. We’ll then start focusing on building out our ad platform and scaling up revenue. From there we will begin expanding out to other cities & counties:

We’ll start off with strategic locations focusing on upcoming growing areas, cultural hubs, tech hubs, and Venture Capital hubs. This will help put us in the zeitgeist for those who will fund us, work for us, those will work with us, and will ease us into the center of the country’s culture setting us up for national and eventually international growth.
